The Chicago Humanists

Mission

We are a nonprofit organization that promotes humanism as a viable alternative to supernatural and theist belief system. We serve as a forum that promotes the separation of religion and government, educating the public on the value of Humanism and secularism, and developing a thriving Chicago Humanist community through social events and community service while ensuring that Humanists have a respected place within Chicago.

our Commitments

  • We are committed to building an inclusive America grounded in an embrace of reason, ethics, scientific inquiry, and compassion.

  • Humanists are concerned for the well being of all, are committed to diversity, and respect those of differing yet humane views. We work to uphold human rights and civil liberties in an open, secular society.

  • We believe that religious freedom includes the freedom to believe and to not believe at all. It should be a shield to protect people and not be used as a sword to harm others. Too often, LGBTQ people, women, atheists and minorities are discriminated against using the excuse of religious freedom. Examples are the denial of health care, reproductive health or education for religious reasons. We stand against the utilization of tax-payer money to favor certain religious causes.

  • The Chicago Humanists are committed to anti-racism, gender equality, the embrace of science and reason, the right to love and marry whomever you want and to social justice.

  • We commit to Humanism and its aspirations and to living Humanist values with the ten commitments.
